While it can be a very entertaining process to customize your loadouts, I wish you were able to create them from the main menu where there is no time pressure instead of as a game is starting and you are expected to be ready as soon as the round begins. Want to armor up and be on the front-lines? Expect to have very little utility or sidearm capability as your armor, mags and weapon attachments will surely use most of your supply points. Want a sniper rifle with a suppressor and long-range scope? Don’t expect to be very heavily armored or be able to carry many mags. This means that in order to excel in one area, you must sacrifice capabilities in another. These supply points you are given can be combined however you wish to equip you with a primary weapon, a secondary, explosives, ammo capacity, armor, and weapon attachments. The limits on what loadouts are available to you are the point-based system alone. ![]() As soon as you begin the game, everything is open to you. One important mechanic that is even more unique to Sandstorm is the lack of weapon unlocks. The weapons also are not fixed to the centre of your screen unless you aim down the sights, hip fire is extremely unreliable and should only be used in the most dire of circumstances. ![]() Players can take as little as one or two shots to kill, so planning your strategy tactically and working with your team is vital. Your HUD is minimal, with no kill feed, hit markers or crosshairs. If you have not dabbled on the hardcore side of the genre, however, you will certainly notice the differences. I highly recommend new players try a couple rounds of this mode to get a feel for the game’s rhythm and mechanics.įor experienced FPS players, Insurgency: Sandstorm will have many familiar qualities. AI mode Checkpoint where you work with a team of other players to capture and destroy objectives as you advance through the map. The most forgiving option available to you is the co-op vs. There is no tutorial and no story mode to help ease you into the action. Insurgency: Sandstorm has no remorse for beginners. Let’s take a look and find out how much improvement Insurgency: Sandstorm has truly made over its predecessor. Insurgency: Sandstorm is a polished and greatly improved version of Insurgency, and in the dev’s own words it represents much of what they hoped to do with the first game but didn’t have the experience or flexibility to accomplish with an older game engine. After updating Insurgency with free new content for over three years after its release, the developer decided it was time to improve and expand the Insurgency experience using Unreal Engine 4 and working with publisher Focus Home Interactive. It's worth its grade and a few years from now when the player base cools & it's a reasonable price (under $20?) then anyone offline such as myself & on the fence can have a good time too without the sticker shock.Insurgency: Sandstorm is the sequel to the indie hit Insurgency which was published by New World Interactive in 2014. ![]() Very good sound design, but playing with sound can be a barrier for some of us, too. ![]() It's an online game with a very good offline practice mode, with aggressive AI and a big selection of large maps with something for everyone. But there's been a year's worth of updates now with no drastic UI changes for Local, so it's not a priority for them. Obviously it's not worth it! But I was desperate I tell you! And if the "Local" mode was fleshed-out more with other game-types or modifiers besides time-of-day, you could pause an active game (starting a round still emulates an online lobby), there was a proper difficulty slider, more generous respawn points on maps, and a levelling-up system (I don't ask for much, do I?), this may very well have been the best hidden find for players like myself in a good long while. Botmatch in "Insurgency Sandstorm" is really good, but it isn't worth the current asking price of the game (I bought the standard edition on sale for $35) for offline alone. I know they don't really exist anymore like they did in the "Battlefield 1942" days, but for myself botmatch still gives a thrill of playing an online game without actually having to deal with real players. 4h 30m ProgressReview from an offline-focused PS4 Slim owner who's always on the lookout for good botmatch games.
